Sexism reinforces constructed gender roles and damaging ideals, builds stereotypes, and fosters violence. The Museum of Sexist Objects (MoSO) on the Ferris State University campus has a growing collection of over 2,500 everyday historical and contemporary objects that portray and contribute to sexism, gendered violence, and stereotypes. Their collection provides a framework that raises awareness and encourages scholarly dialogue and research.
Michele Bosak, curator of the Fed Galleries @ KCAD, has selected over 100 objects to exhibit alongside contemporary artists whose work critiques the very ideas in which these objects engage. The objects from MoSO have been curated into four categories – Body Image, Gender Roles, the Objectified Body, and Misogyny - so that viewers can make connections to context and compare the obvious and more subtle ways the objects promote sexism.
