Thukral + Tagra
Thukral & Tagra explore the intersection of art and play as a means of cultural reflection and social engagement. Walk of Life reimagines the ancient Indian card game Ganjifa, transforming it into a board game that explores the cycle of life, decision-making, and moral balance. Initially played with 120 cards depicting the ten earthly incarnations of Vishnu (Dashavatara), the game is now an immersive storytelling experience where players navigate blessings, curses, and karmic choices that shape their journey. Rooted in mythology yet deeply connected to contemporary life, the game challenges participants to confront ethical dilemmas and consider the broader consequences of their actions. In Walk of Life: Version 2, the artists extend these ideas into the present, embedding real-world challenges—specifically water conservation—into the game's mechanics. Set in Kali Yuga, the most turbulent era in Hindu cosmology, players must engage in twelve rounds of collective decision-making to manage a finite water reservoir, mirroring today's environmental crises. The game serves as a simulation and a call to action, demonstrating how individual and communal choices impact shared resources. Through an interactive, strategic, and socially relevant lens, Thukral & Tagra transform play into a tool for awareness, encouraging players to reflect on sustainability, responsibility, and the fragile balance of human existence.
